#14

Gubányi Károly
Ausztrália

(Australia)

First Edition 1915
Second Edition 1927

The last title to appear in the series before the First World War interrupted publication. It is the second book written by Gubányi, giving account of his seven year stay in Australia. Like the other two pre-War titles Edited by Cholnoky, the Picture cover variant has impressed rather than printed-glued illustration on the cover. One known owner inscription (on title page, below) from 1916 confirms this version to be a first edition. No Classic I. scaled variants are known. It is unclear if the Classic I. cover variant is a pre-war first edition (if so, the only such known), or was produced together with all other plain Classic I. cover titles after the War in the early-mid twenties. A second edition was produced in 1927 (according to the foreword to the 2nd edition by the Author), near-simultaneously appearing with the Classic II. and Oval covers. This was the first volume to appear in the new layout, with text on coarser paper and illustrations moved to coated paper plates at intervals. It is unclear if the Classic III. cover variant is second edition, or a separate Third Edition made sometime in the late twenties-early thirties. The picture cover variant is the commonest (though still rather scarce), all other variants are very rare.
